Empowering Veterans to Heal

Our First Annual Freedom for Heroes Gala will be held on May 9, 2026 at The Camby Hotel in Phoenix, Arizona.

Gala-op on over to this Western Themed event. Ever dreamed of attending the Country Music Awards? Now’s your chance to show off the fashion you’d wear to that star-studded night.

Featuring a once-in-a-lifetime keynote speaker, Michael Durant, the POW, Black Hawk Pilot, and Purple Heart recipient that inspired the movie Black Hawk Down, get ready to hoedown with the most influential in the West!

Keynote Speaker: Chief Warrant Officer 4 Michael Durant (Ret.)

On October 3, 1993, CW4 Michael Durant was piloting Super Six Four over Mogadishu, Somalia when his Black Hawk helicopter was shot down behind enemy lines. Badly injured and the sole American survivor of the crash, he was captured and held as a prisoner of war for 11 days — his story of survival inspiring the book and film Black Hawk Down. A decorated veteran of the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (the “Night Stalkers”), Durant served 22 years in the U.S. Army, flew over 3,700 hours, and earned the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Bronze Star with Valor, and the Purple Heart, among many other honors.

When Michael Durant walks into a room, he commands it — not because of the movie, but because of the man. His story is one of courage under fire, loyalty to his fellow soldiers, and the kind of resilience that can’t be manufactured. At the first annual Freedom for Heroes Gala, you’ll hear directly from someone who has lived the mission this organization exists to honor. This is not a speaker you’ll forget.
